Operations are usually done with a local anesthetic. For improved safety, an eye guard is used as well.
Surgeries take about 90 to 120 minutes and most patients can leave after it has been completed. It will however still take about a week before a patient fully recovers. During this period, a patient might experience a little pain or discomfort.

As a rule, patients will need to trim their eyelashes regularly. This is because the new implants tend to grow at a faster rate than those of natural eyelashes. Because of the richer look, most people will not need to apply mascara.
Depending on the type of hair a person possesses some additional makeup effort might be required in order to get the desired natural look. People with straight hair might need to curl their eyelashes while the inverse will have to be done by those with really curly hair.
Newly implanted hairs are also likely to shed in the weeks following a surgery. This process is however normal and they will very quickly grow back.
